Abstract
Introduction: Years ago, it was the common purpose of the breeder and feeder to produce cattle of great weight and size, and as a rule the steer was not considered fit for market until at least four or five years old. It was then thought that the animal which at five years, laid on the greatest amount of flesh had best paid the owner; while quality was of lesser importance.
