    1998 Turfgrass Research
(Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2013-04-10) Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service
1997 was a successful research year. Not only were numerous studies initiated and completed, as evidenced by the work reported herein, but we were also successful in obtaining funding for future work. K-State received four grants from the United States Golf Association in 1997. Dr. Bingru Huang got funding for at least 1 year to work on managing creeping bentgrass through our summer stress periods. Dr. Ned Tisserat received funding for a 3-year project on the biology and management of spring dead spot in bermudagrass. Two projects also were funded in Civil Engineering and Agronomy that involve environmental studies related to the construction of Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan.

It might be a simple question, such as “Which tall fescue cultivars are best suited for use on lawns?” or possibly a more complicated one, such as “What causes the quality of my bentgrass greens to decline in July?” Answers to these questions and many others are contained in this 1999 edition of Turfgrass Research.

    2000 Turfgrass Research
(Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2013-04-10) Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service
This publication contains results of projects done throughout 1999 by K-State turfgrass researchers. You can see many of these projects in progress on August 3, 2000 at the Kansas Turfgrass Field Day. This will be held at the Rocky Ford Turfgrass Research Center in Manhattan. What questions can we answer for you? Maybe you’re curious about the best performing tall fescue cultivars for lawns, bermudagrasses for fairways, or bentgrasses for greens. If you need to know how to manage fungicide programs to control diseases on tall fescue lawns or bentgrass greens, that information is here. As a superintendent, maybe you’re having trouble keeping your putting greens in playable condition all summer - some suggestions lie inside. Keep this research report handy - it can be useful all year long. We also make this information available on our web site at : http:www.oznet.ksu.edu/dp_hfrr/welcome.htm. As always, we’re interested in hearing your ideas about future research projects. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Kansas Turfgrass Foundation. Plans are underway to help celebrate this milestone during the annual Turfgrass Conference in Topeka November 28- 30.

    2001 Turfgrass Research
(Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2013-04-10) Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service
With a summer noted for extended periods of temperatures over 100 °F, 2000 put turfgrass in our state through quite a test. As we enter the 2001 growing season, it's clear that some warmseason grasses were adversely affected by a cold winter. There is no rest for the weary attempting to growing quality turf in Kansas. This publication contains results of projects done throughout 2000 by K-State turfgrass researchers. You can see many of these projects in progress on August 2, 2001, at the Kansas Turfgrass Field Day at the John C. Pair Horticultural Research Center, Wichita. What questions can we answer for you? Maybe you’re curious about the best performing tall fescue cultivars for lawns, bermudagrasses for fairways, or bentgrasses for greens. Maybe you need to determine which tall fescue or fine fescue cultivars are best adapted to our state. As a superintendent, maybe you’d like to know how to convert a ryegrass fairway to something else. Some suggestions lie inside. Keep this research report handy - it can be useful all year long.

    2002 Turfgrass Research
(Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2013-04-10) Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service
There is no rest for weary turfgrass managers in Kansas. In 2001, many of us were brought to our knees, literally -- it allowed for a better view of winter-damaged zoysiagrass, brown patch- infested tall fescue, or anthracnose-stricken creeping bentgrass. K-State's turfgrass research team is growing. We have four faculty in horticulture and one in plant pathology who dedicate their research efforts to improving turfgrass in Kansas. We also have balance, with work addressing fundamental turfgrass management problems like water management, stand establishment, weed control, and disease management. We are also striving to provide balance in serving needs across the industry including golf course superintendents, lawn care operators, and athletic field managers. Kansas turf industry members should be proud of the support they've provided for the K-State research program. You have helped make the program strong, and we'll only get stronger. This publication contains results of projects done throughout 2001 by K-State turfgrass researchers. Keep this research report handy -- it can be useful all year long. We also make this information available on our web site at: www.oznet.ksu.edu/horticulture. You can see many of these projects in progress on August 1, 2002 at the Kansas Turfgrass Field Day at the Rocky Ford Research Center in Manhattan.

    K-State Turfgrass Research 2003
(Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2013-04-10) Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service
Turfgrass Research 2003 contains results of projects done by K-State faculty and graduate students. Some of these results will be presented at the Kansas Turfgrass Field Day at the John C. Pair Horticultural Research Center in Wichita on August 7, 2003. Despite current budget restraints, the turfgrass teaching, research, and extension programs are strong. In addition to ongoing work in Manhattan and Wichita, turf research has been initiated at the new research center in Olathe and will be expanding in the coming years. Our strength is attributed, in part, to the support provided by members of the Kansas turfgrass industry. If you need information on selecting the best turfgrass varieties for our region, you'll find that information here. This publication also contains information about controlling tough weeds such as yellow nutsedge and spurge and diseases such as brown patch and dollar spot. Significant work was done in 2002 to identify irrigation requirements of grasses in our state and how turf managers can conserve water; you'll find that inside as well.
