Abstract

The following report explores aspects of Sonata No. XVI ("Passacaglia") by Heinrich Biber, "Moses Fantasy" by Niccolo Paganini, Sonata in D Minor by Johannes Brahms, and "Shelter Island" by Xavier Foley that the author found relevant to discuss as part of her preparation for performing these pieces. Each section includes a brief biography of the composer, background on the work to be discussed, stylistic analysis that aided in performance preparation, and a performance guide with notes on specific practices one may employ as part of his or her future practice of these pieces.
